city park new orleans

Covering 1,300 acres, City Park has charmed, delighted and thrilled New Orleanians since 1854. The Master Plan – a “Vision for the 21st Century” was adopted in the spring of 2005 – then came the Storm. Hurricane Katrina submerged the park and destroyed much.  800 year old live oaks survived – the oldest mature grove in the world. The master plan provided the guide for rebuilding. Its vision shepherded philanthropy and prompted over 100,000 volunteers since 2005 to join with park staff, civic leaders and contractors to rebuild Big Lake, the Festival Grounds, the Great Lawn, buildings, golf courses and a long litany of other park places including, in the inimitable New Orleans spirit, a community based youth farm ‘Grow Dat’.
