Downtown San Diego Parks and Open Space Implementation Plan

Marty and Laura moved from New York City in 1988 to live in downtown San Diego at a time when development and planning was focused on the suburbs. Believing their experience could aid in transforming the 9 to 5 office only downtown culture into a vibrant 24/7 live/work/play space, the two saw a culmination of those efforts when their team was selected to guide the development of the downtown parks and open space network. The result was ONE PARK – the vision of a connected system of beautifully designed places of recreation that would contribute to a healthy community – economically, socially, and individually.

Collaboratively, the two led a multidisciplinary team, working with a broad range of community stakeholders and elected officials to define a vision for an integrated system of innovative and memorable public spaces, sustained in perpetuity by a framework of governance, finance, operations and maintenance policies.
